The Fall of Man
Read Genesis 3:1-7
Read Genesis 3:1-7
Now the serpent was more cunning than all the wild animals the Lord God made on the earth. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat from every tree of the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit from the trees of the garden; but from the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden, God said, ‘You shall not eat from it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ” Then the serpent said to the woman, “You shall not die by death. For God knows in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like gods, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw the tree was good for food, was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree beautiful to contemplate, she took its fruit and ate. She also gave it to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of the two were opened, and they knew they were naked. So they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.
Intro
What are the Consequences of sin?
Christ is our hope (the new Adam)
- After creating Adam and Eve, God commanded them to trust Him and not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
- deceived by the devil, they mistrust God and gain this knowledge on their own.
- the consequences have been dire for the entire human race ever since.
What are the Consequences of sin?
- mankind became subject to mortality.
- all humanity has now an inclination towards sin.
- God's image in us has not been entirely destroyed by sin; we are still capable of doing good, but it is harder.
- sweat, toil, hunger, thirst, weariness, sorrow, pain, suffering, sickness, tribulations, tragedy and tears have become part of our existence.
- IMPORTANT: SIN IS PERSONAL. We all suffer the consequences but are NOT guilty of Adam and Eve's sin (only of our own sins).
Christ is our hope (the new Adam)
- Christ has come to save us from sin and its consequences.
- He gives us the power to resist temptation and live in communion with God, even while living in this world.
- by dying on the Cross, Christ restored humanity: we received forgiveness and the ability to fight on.
Remember
About the Fall of Man:
- it is the sin of our ancestors Adam and Eve.
- we all suffer from its consequences.
- Christ brings forgiveness and healing for all.
